Being a MIB means not only wearing cool clothes, but also feeling the sense of being able to drive a star. Through a contact we discovered a W124 400E in Los Angeles, California, USA. Returning from the scrap yard in LA to Good old Germany, the condition of the car was poor under the circumstances. Is it worthwhile at all to freshen up the 400E? Fact is: the 400E needs a lot of TLC. After a detailed inventory, we decided to get the Benz back in shape with the help of some partners, get it back on the road and give it a custom look. After all, a W124 with a V8 engine and 4.2 litres of displacement is something special and actually much too good for the slaughterhouse. By the way: If previous owner Carlos Lopez from Lake Forest (CA) reads this, you are welcome to contact us, dear Carlos. Saludos a california!

The Benz now accompanies us as a crew car. But the limo will not remain original. Chassis, rims, interior and paint get an update. Large, noble, shiny Carlsson CR1/12 rims, a taut H&R suspension and a noble SCHAWE interior. In addition, a paint finish that makes the star shine in new splendour. In keeping with the vehicle's origins, we chose the colour "Californian Rockhard Gold" for the paintwork, a bright gold lacquer with fine gold particles in the paint. The paint was specially mixed at our request and now bears the name of the boss.

This should make the W124, which by the way is a classic kit car, more lush and fresher on the road and a real showstopper. Modular because the 400 is equipped with the M119 4.2-litre V8 engine with four-valve technology from the S-Class W140. Parts of the chassis and the braking system were taken from the SL R129 models. The exhaust system corresponded to the 500E with exhaust gas recirculation, secondary air injection and large-volume catalytic converter. This should make the original 400E the perfect wolf in sheep's clothing. For a stylish appearance, however, we give the Benz an individual touch.

So in Los Angeles, the stronghold of West Coast hip hop, you can discover very different treasures besides good music. We will now treasure the Benz, cherish it, care for it and take it out for a drive. Because of its special equipment, engine and moving history, the 400E has grown so close to our hearts that we probably won't want to give it up again any time soon. Carlos, no deberías haberlo vendido...
